An actual Blue Visby Voyage
Scroll to see a real-life example of the process flow that enabled a Panamax bulk carrierin January 2026 to sail from Singapore to West Australia and achieve a 25% fuel saving, plus an improved P&L for both shipowner and charterer.
The Product
Components that deliver a mutual financial benefit plus energy efficiency without capex or opex
Data inputs and algorithms produce an optimal arrival time that is enabled by contractual adaptations and delivers a voyage P&L improvement for both shipowners and charterers.
Parameters & Constraints framing the BV/RTA (Recommended Time of Arrival)
20+ factors — including vessel performance, relative parameters of other ships, port readiness, weather, terminal schedules, contractual requirements, and financial conditions — are the data inputs that enable the Blue Visby algorithm to determine the optimal arrival time at the anchorage: the Blue Visby Recommended Time of Arrival.
Determining BV/RTA that maximises the mutual financial benefit
Blue Visby assesses the Parameters & Constraints continuously throughout the voyage, and issues daily Blue Visby Recommended Times of Arrival. The Master retains full navigational authority and makes the decisions as to weather routing and voyage planning.
Digital Twin & Methodology for benefit-sharing (Blue GA)
Every voyage is benchmarked against a business-as-usual scenario using Digital Twin simulations. Savings are calculated by comparing the metrics of two Digital Twin simulations: what actually happened on the Blue Visby Voyage vs what would have happened under business-as-usual conditions.
The Innovation
Why the Blue Visby Solution is different
Optimise to anchorage, not berthing
Optimise the ocean passage to the anchorage, and not berthing. Shifting to the anchorage is left in the hands of the ports and terminals. In this way, BVS avoids the complexity of just-in-time arrival, and respects the role of ports and terminals to organise berthing times and sequence.
Compatible with all port and terminal berthing models
A system that is compatible with all types of ocean/port interface (berthing model): ports that operate First Come, First Served, and also ports that operate a line-up.
Optimised for both parties
Assess optimal arrival time by reference to all relevant parameters, including the mutual financial interest of shipowners and charterers, so that both parties have an improved voyage P&L. Unlike every other optimisation tool, BVS optimises for two parties, and not one.
Financial incentive to prolong the ocean passage
Create a financial incentive for the vessel to prolong her ocean passage, sail at a slower speed and reduce anchorage dwell time, without affecting berthing or cargo operations, and in a way that benefits both shipowners and charterers.
Neutral, transparent benefit-sharing
Earlier attempts of Virtual Arrival relied on ad hoc agreements between parties and produced different outcomes every time, creating friction between parties. By contrast, BVS has created a neutral, transparent and consistent methodology for sharing the financial benefits.
Compatible with all weather routing and voyage optimisation products
The Blue Visby Solution provides the optimal time of arrival at the anchorage, and leaves it in the hands of operators and their service providers to do the weather routing and voyage planning.
